Just “The King”

As I understand the custom in the UK, one only refers to the King by name after their death. During their lifetime and reign, they are referred to as simply “The King”. For example, King William IV, who reigned prior to Queen Victoria, would have been simply referred to as The King during his reign. But posthumously, he’s referred to by name.

Does the wife of the king also call him "The King" or would she be an exception? 🤔
