Why is it mostly moderates calling for Biden to step aside, whereas the left wing mostly supports him continuing the race?

I consider myself left wing, not moderate, but I want President Biden to step aside.

I follow some American leftist YouTubers and writers.

They all want Biden to step down. Not because of Gaza (though they are correctly unhappy with him for that) but because they don't want trump to win.

From reading the comments on here: there are also moderates who want him to step aside. Though I've seen people use arguments to defend Biden.

It's a strategic issue and so it cuts across ideological lines.

@Burnley123 The main problem is that, thanks to their "best in the world" electoral system, most if not all the times an incumbent stepped down or was set aside by their party, the opposition has won. It could only work, and even there I'm not certain, if Biden stepped down himself and designated a successor and the party as a whole agreed on that successor with no infighting, which doesn't seem likely.

Also the campaign funds won't transfer from Biden to anyone else from my understanding, so a new fundraising will have to be started from scratch, which seems a bit unrealistic at roughly 3 months from the election.

There's also no big names for a replacement that I know of.

@Elessar I believe they would transfer to Harris, if she was the candidate. I could be wrong.

I've seen Destiny (the YouTuber) put up this excellent defense of Biden with lots of good arguments about how the alternative is hard. He is right.

However, it's like being on the Titanic and having a good argument against a potentially problematic life boat. 'We've never used a lifeboat before, we are not sure how to lower it and maybe it would sink." All valid concerns but...

Biden made more gaffs today. He confused Kamala Harris with Trump and Putin with Zelensky at a big NATO press conference. His polling is dire and would only be recoverable with an incredible comeback. Not only isn't that happening, he's still making awful mistakes.

He can't beat Trump. Someone else might.

@Burnley123 I'm not sure they can, from a purely legal standpoint, but I may be wrong. You can just endorse another candidate if you lose a primary (as Sanders did in 2020, for instance), but not transfer the campaign funds, as far as I know.

I think Americans need to figure out that they're voting for a cabinet and not the president alone, which is already hard to do on non-presidential systems, because the average politically uneducated person sees the party leader and assumes s/he's some sort of king once the party is elected (which is also the reason why I'm against Meloni's proposal of making the PM directly eligible here, but I'm digressing).

@Elessar I've said all I want to on this.

@Burnley123 It's fine, I wasn't trying to start a debate on the matter. I don't even have a final position on the issue, seems a lose-lose situation to me.
