You've got it backwards. Trump's handlers won't allow him to debate Biden. Trump's dementia has progressed to the point where he may not be able to handle a debate. Also, he's guaranteed to get the following question:
"Suppose Congress passes a nationwide abortion ban. Will you sign it?"
That's an easy one for Biden, he will just say "no." But it puts Trump in the position of not being able to answer. If he says "yes," he alienates the moderates he needs to win, and if he says "no," he alienates his base. There's no way his handlers will allow him to have to answer that.
Trump will weasel out of the debate by refusing to accept conditions like a microphone cutoff to prevent interruptions, or not having a right-wing Trump fluffer as moderator, or no audience, or whatever. Trump doesn't need to debate anyway as his cult won't abandon him over that. Debates have been pretty worthless over the past few cycles, where the only interest is in whether a candidate either screws up or lands a zinger. It's not like we need them to make up our minds; everyone knows who the candidates are.
