@MasterLee How were they not? They were Authoritarians, not Socialists.
It really seems like most people judge a person's politics by the imagery they use.

@MalteseFalconPunch

The divide between Left and Right has always been about where power is in society. The Left wants power to be spread as equally as possible, the Right wants power consolidated at the top.

I know some people think that Stalin was a Leftist because he called himself one. But if we're going by actions and philosophy, he was on the Right. The Soviet Union was a fascist state with socialist imagery.

@MalteseFalconPunch Sure, I'm fine with disagreeing.
I also accept that words change over time and it's really society that defines words.

@MalteseFalconPunch I think it's also worth mentioning that today's Leftists have a worldview completely different than that of Stalin and Mao. Whereas the Fascists reject Franco and Mussolini for optics reasons, but pretty much agree with their ideologies.
Nazism has actually died out, though most Fascists still admire the Authoritarianism of the Nazis.

So while we agree that words and definitions change over time, I don't really think Leftism has changed. Leftists reject Tankies, while the Right claims all Leftists are Tankies. But both the Left and the Right ascribes Authoritarianism to the Right.

@MalteseFalconPunch Anarchy is generally on the Left. That's the reason Communism is even further to the Left than Socialism. Communism has no government.

But the divide between Left and Right is more about where power is. In an ancap society, power is still concentrated at the top, but instead of government, there are corporations that run everything, including making the laws. Essentially, Ancap is an authoritarian government without using the word "government." In a way, it might be even worse than Fascism, because there's no regulations whatsoever. Whatever makes the most money is how the corporations write the laws.

Also, it's no coincidence that ancap "Libertarians" always vote Republican. Most of them know all of this. Even in Ayn Rand's books, the business-owners are always presented as being basically Fascists, but they're supposed to be the good guys.

@MalteseFalconPunch Well there is some truth there, though Feudalism is to the Right of Capitalism. But the line would be Communism - Socialism - Capitalism - Feudalism, so pretty close.
But keep in mind, Conservatism never really define Communism. They just give some vague definition like "big government."

That would be left-wing. Terrible things can happen in any society. The reason I'm a Leftist is because more Democracy is almost always better than less Democracy.
The society you described is possible, but realistically speaking, the people would probably vote to eliminate it. Whereas in a Dictatorship, it's entirely up to the government while the workers have no say. This is why left-leaning societies have more freedom.

@MalteseFalconPunch Well it's not super simple. Like you can make good arguments for gun rights, states' rights, and multiracialism for being on either side. But generally speaking, there is a pretty clear line. The further Left, the more power is spread throughout society, the further Right, the more power is consolidated. Democracy is a left-wing idea because it gives power to the workers. A society with Democracy of both the government and the workplace would be even further Left.

Marxism-Leninism isn't an ideology, it's just something Tankies call themselves to gain support. So yeah, in that sense, it's right-wing

Fascism is a form of Authoritarianism.

Not a lot, but he is one of my favorite political Youtubers. I'm not a Communist like him, though. I want society to reach Socialism and stay there.
