@MarineBob At the time, Twitter was a publicly traded company, and Elon was buying up stock publicly. At the time, Elon was saying that if he couldn't buy Twitter, it was proof the markets were rigged.
At the point where a person owns the majority of a company, they have the power to appoint the whole board of directors and make the board do whatever they ask. When Twitter's board sold to Elon they were just doing what boards of bought up companies always do and bowing to the inevitable instead of dragging the process out.
