I don't think you have your facts straight. Defending is not declaring something illegal. No democracy should have a state run media outlet. That is an anathema to what democracy is all about. That is also the problem with the major news outlets like CNN, MSNBC, NYT etc. They are mouth pieces for the state agencies. If the CIA wants to advance a cause it 'leaks' information to a certain "News Agency" and instantly the 'news' is around the world advancing the cause of the CIA. Ditto the FBI or the State Department etc etc etc. It is how the game is played and everyday Americans are being played.
