If you will pardon me, conservatives, I have a question which concerns me greatly.

According to you, paying cashiers at grocery stores a living wage will result in an increase in prices, yes?

Why, then, does replacing cashiers with self checkout stations not result in a decrease in prices?

The "supermarket" is an American invention, but are the US ones like the UK versions in needing still retain some till staff? These are there to help self-service till users overcome any problems (or teach customers like me how to use them!) and to operate the manned tills many people (like me!) prefer.

So the self-service tills have not completely replaced all the staff, just reduced their numbers.

To answer directly though... no decrease in prices, just an increase in profit.

Just spotted something. The forum title photograph shows Donald Trump raising his clenched fist. Does he not know that is pretty much the old Communist salute and one of that dogma's symbols (along with the hammer and sickle)?

@ArishMell Yes, that is the case with American supermarkets. They retain at least one staff member to monitor six or so self checkout stations, as some customers inevitably scan something twice by mistake, scan an age restricted item, or make some other error.

@CorvusBlackthorne So it does cut some costs; but given that most staff are likely on the mimimum wage, I wonder how much saving is really made?

There was a great video by John Oliver several weeks ago on tipping but basically no one likes self check out and the supermarket barons are lying dogs

You're asking them to think, that's too much brain cell usage
