I just lost a longtime friend tonight.

I've been watching snippets of the news here and there. Hearing from friends and acquaintances on the internet about the executive orders he's already putting in. The violent thugs he's pardoning. His promise to remove employment protection for trаns Americans, which have been met with firings all across the country. And it opened my eyes to something that's been right under my nose.

This guy, whose name I won't share, whom I've known ever since my days on PlayStation Home, I was talking to him about what's going on. About the sһitstorm that's already blowing in this country. And he had the audacity, the sheer, unadulterated nerve, to say two things to me that I never expected him to say.

"He was better than the other candidate."

"I didn't vote."

My response in its entirety before blocking him on Facebook:

But I forgot, we're also friends on PlayStation. It wasn't long before he messaged me there:

So that's it. He hasn't replied to me, and I suppose I don't blame him. I'll probably never hear from him again.

I've largely checked out of straight, cis society. It's well past time to focus on building alternative power structures and communities that center decency and kindness over the political hellscape the billionaires have created.

I want none of the noise or the arguing or the drama; I want to pour my love into my family and my community and enjoy every second with it while I can.

@22Michelle @LordShadowfire my version of checking out is less leaving things up to other people and more proactively building community support and getting involved at the local level.

We have to protect and support each other, and create alternative power structures and systems of support.

I still voted, ofc (every election since I turned 18) and I'm engaged; but I am laser focused on supporting the queer community and other at risk individuals.

@jademonkey19 Oh, okay, good. Good. We need that right now.

@jademonkey19 Okay, so when you say "checking out" you mean you're directing your energy into local events, your community, and you still vote. Sadly many who vote take no part in any community or political events. Just keep on doinv what you're doing, but don't say you're "'checkibv out" because uou are really doing the opposite.

@trollslayer He said it's because you can't count on politicians to protect you, and that you have to protect yourself, which is why I told him to leave the country if he doesn't want to participate.

I really wish it was possible for the US to implement fines like Australia does for not voting. But that would probably end up a sһitshow of people writing in joke candidates.
