Did you hear that Trump’s taxpayer-funded investment just lost $10 billion in one day?

In August 2025, President Donald Trump took the unusual step of making the U.S. government one of the largest shareholders in a major tech company by buying a 10 percent stake in Intel.
On Friday the company’s stock cratered, slashing the Commerce Department’s Intel holdings by over $10 billion in a single day. This might be a photo of Trump explaining what happed.
Cheers!

Trump paid $8.9 billion for 433.3 million primary common shares at a price of $20.47 per share, giving the government a 9.9% passive stake in the company.

Trump took credit, but $5.7 billion came from Biden programs (the CHIPS acts), and the remainder from another Biden program (the Secure Enclave program).

Intel closed at $65.76 today, down nearly 29%, meaning that the government made almost $16.2B, 29% of what it should have had.

The real issue, is that while the Biden admin, saw these programs as "tools" to re-enable vendors (Micron technologies as well), to re-take the lead, Trump thought of it as another "deal," and with no real direction, it's going to take long term, without producing the desired effect.

Today, Intel, instead of making progress on manufacturing strategy, and accurate reporting, its processor and wireless divisions are falling behind, which made them victim to market fluctuations, when shit hit the fan today.

Our future competitiveness should not be placed in the hands of imbeciles, looking to extort "donations" for the ballroom and financing Melania's movie.

It's a damn shame, because back in the day, Intel was a company was innovation could be scheduled, like clockwork.
