But is it a just war?
Trump and his inner circle like to portray a good Christian image But this feud with the pope is showing the world a different picture. Cheers!

@Nanoose Purely by the original Augustinian definition the war with Iran isn't one following the Just War Doctrine. What the people around Trump don't want us to understand that Trump made a fool of himself and now they want to do it too. Roman Catholics can't claim that the Pope isn't speaking for themselves when it is regarding voicing the Gospel. Blessed are the peacemakers is pretty high up in Christian belief

@Thinkerbell The Augustinian doctrine of Just War, often applied to evaluate the bombing of German cities during WWII, argues against such actions based on the principles of discrimination and proportionality. While Augustinian thought permits war for a just cause (restoring peace), it holds that the deliberate killing of non-combatants and indiscriminate destruction is immoral.
The Augustinian doctrine remains highly relevant because it profoundly shaped Western theology, philosophy, and psychology. His doctrines of original sin, the necessity of grace, and the conflict between the "City of God" and the "City of Man" offer a framework for understanding human frailty, evil, and political order. These ideas continue to form the foundation of Catholic social doctrine and Protestant soteriology

@Jackaloftheazuresand It's not about a title. Being an augustinian means that one trains to be that for ones own life. How long have politicians ever been trained on saying or posting intelligently?
Jackaloftheazuresand · 31-35, M
@val70 No it really doesn't. All it shows is you were able to get a title and we all know there are many ways to BS your way into that

@Jackaloftheazuresand I'm sure that the presidency will survive Trump. Can't wait for it to survive!

Wow, he must have been doing some serious AI research to come up with the Just War doctrine at this late stage
@SunshineGirl
The purpose for war by a just people is to destroy the will of others to harm or kill you. It's not enough for Israel to shoot Iran rockets down. It's Iran's intent that has to be destroyed.

@Heartlander You also need credible evidence that the threat is real or plausible. And the response needs to be targetted and proportionate.
@SunshineGirl
Proportionate?
:) Noooooooooo. Even if they are just throwing rocks at you it's not enough to just keep batting them away, nor just throw rocks back at them. You have to destroy their will to want to harm you. To accomplish that the response may have to be disproportionate. If WW2 had ended with just a cease fire, we would still be fighting it today. It had to end with unconditional surrenders. WW1 ended with a cease fire, and in many ways, WW2 was a continuation of WW1. The war in Korea ended up with a cease fire and here we are, 70 years later, living under the threat of North Korea sending a rocket with a nuclear bomb our way.
