What if Trump did not "officially run" for president, but managed to get the majority of "write in" votes?

Twenty-Second Amendment

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, ...

Write in voting is a form of election. By the 22nd, that wouldn't be valid. If someone is disqualified from office by the Constitution, any write in vote for them would be void -- the same as not voting.

Steve Bannon says ‘there is a plan’ for Trump to be president in 2028: ‘We had longer odds in 2016 and 2024’.

Despite the U.S. Constitution’s 22nd Amendment, which bars candidates who have already won two terms from taking office for a third time, Bannon said the Trump administration will find a means to reinstall the Republican leader.

Asked if the 22nd Amendment could prove to be a hard barrier to remaining in the White House, Bannon said: “There’s many different alternatives. At the appropriate time, we’ll lay out what the plan is, but there is a plan, and Trump will be the president in ‘28.”
