Des goûts et des couleurs, on ne discute pas. But if you believe that you are the standard on which all "good taste" needs to be measured, taste can turn into disgust and discrimination of "bad taste" really quickly. It's all really simplistic, stupid and very human.

In matters of taste, more than anywhere else, all determination is negation; and tastes are perhaps first and foremost distastes, disgust provoked by horror or visceral intolerance ('sick-making') of the tastes of others. 'De gustibus non est disputandum': not because 'tous les gouts sont dans la nature', but because each taste feels itself to be natural-and so it almost is, being a habitus--which amounts to rejecting others as unnatural and therefore vicious. Aesthetic intolerance can be terribly violent. [...] The most intolerable thing for those who regard themselves as the possessors of legitimate culture is the sacrilegious reuniting of tastes which taste dictates shall be separated.

And for the cultish following that Donald has, you just can't have any criticism. 🤷‍♂

The other criticism was, that he's a latino... which is just xenophobia. A trait that the MAGA crowd has elevated to a virtue. 🤷‍♂
