Hey, as an American I say to you, don’t get overly concerned about what’s going on here in the states. As a dear Canadian said to me, “ You live in “ The excited states of America!” Yeah, guess she was/ is right. That said, here’s a book , my friend for 35+ years, another Canadian, authored. Fictional but eerily timely especially in light of both world and Canadian happenings. You may have read it. If not I encourage you to read it.
ThePatientAnarchist · 61-69
@soar2newhighs Thank you for the reading recommendation :)
Unfortunately what is going on in the States right now is massively impacting Canada and just about everywhere else, see under: Tariffs; Climate Change.

@specman So my question for you is, when he does make a mistake, why does there seem to be nobody around him to question his decision or warn him that it is mistaken?
@ThePatientAnarchist I can’t answer that. I could only guess an answer.
calicuz · 56-60, M
I have ideas, but unfortunately I must leave things to our Democratic leaders.
bookerdana · M
@calicuz Like the Francis Scott Key line though,Is it still there..this Washington caper looks like Caesar crossing the rubicon
calicuz · 56-60, M
bookerdana · M
@calicuz Rome was never a republic after Caesar, thats my nightmare
hunkalove · 70-79, M
I've been wondering that too. Why is everyone so afraid of him? Is it just because if they quit they might have to work for a living?
bioluminescent · 36-40, F
@hunkalove he has a army I don't
bioluminescent · 36-40, F
@hunkalove just saying
bijouxbroussard · F
I have been wondering how so many of my countrymen took leave of their senses. 😳
bijouxbroussard · F
@bookerdana I definitely understand. We did what we could legally do as citizens.
When people say, almost proudly, "I don’t vote", I don’t get into it with them (it won’t change their minds). But I admit, my respect for them drops a little, because from my perspective they’re saying they don’t care enough about our system to do the bare minimum. And that apathy has helped people like Trump get elected, even more certainly than his cultists.

@bijouxbroussard And this was a pretty clear choice, though the majority felt they didn't know Harris, but Project 2025 had been leaked it was clear

i will tell you why. our country was out of control. completely run by illegals and why were they here? for power, for congressional seats, for votes. and they destroyed our country.
President Trump will go down in history as one of the most popular presidents EVER.
please explain the mess Canada is in. i think your focus would serve you better to concentrate on that

@akindheart As you know, what America does affects the entire world, and certainly your neighbours. So like it or not, it is my business.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@ThePatientAnarchist i would say that what Canada does affects us too but i don't make political posts about the mess Canada is in and yes you are in a mess. My canadian friends tell me how messed up it is.
ThePatientAnarchist · 61-69
@akindheart I would love to hear your complaints about Canada's impact on the USA.
And of course some of us here feel our country is a mess. I am pretty sure you can find people everywhere who think the same about their own country, as do my American friends about yours.

Thank you mr anarchist, for best comment.
ThePatientAnarchist · 61-69
@Carla You're welcome. Up to that point in the discussion yours was the fullest answer that went some way toward explaining what I'm asking about. It was also pleasingly humble :)
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
You are virtue signalling. You're not "puzzled", you are looking to be validated.
Oh look you gave Carla "You people are in a cult!" Best Comment.
We all know what your opinions are.
Here is mine for the umpteenth time: You don't understand American politics. If you care to participate, immigrate here and participate. Otherwise, bug off.

Because you've demonstrated, again and again, that you aren't interested in others opinions, you want to hear what you already believe and be validated by like minded individuals.
Again, you gave Carla, an obnoxious, blatant, and unrepentant anti Trumper "Best Comment" for her partisan screed.
Your behavior demonstrates your beliefs, not your words.
How is asking a question, harassing and belittling

A lot of people don't want to accept this, but it's not just Trump. Conservatism as an ideology is inherently authoritarian. That's why all the Republicans needed was one wannabe "strongman" to go full fascist.
BohoBabe · M
@ThePatientAnarchist So there is some more to it. Conservative politicians will usually go as authoritarian as they think they can get away with. In America, Trump showed Republicans that they can be hardcore fascist and get away with it. Trump is legit mentally challenged, so he doesn't realize when he's doing something that goes against the norms of democracy. But thanks to decades of right-wing media grooming people into fascism, there was an audience ready for someone like Trump to come along and accidentally take advantage.
America is a real mixed bag. On the one hand, it's the main character, it's the most important country and it sets the trends for the rest of the world. But the downside to that is billionaire globalists spent their time and money on grooming the right-wing in America. Peter Thiel is German, Elon Musk is South African, but they both knew America is the most important place to dump their money. So America ended up with the extremist base ready to be taken advantage of by Trump.

@BohoBabe Danke. Sehr interessant, und traurig. :(
BohoBabe · M
@ThePatientAnarchist Das ist eben Politik. Interessant, verrückt, aber manchmal auch ziemlich traurig.
HobNoblin · 36-40, M
It's simple. We're making America great again. Once we are able to ally with Russia, there's no limit to what we can accomplish.
ThePatientAnarchist · 61-69
@HobNoblin With respect, is that an answer to my question? Are you saying that no one around him seems to say no to Trump because they can all see that his every whim is on the right track?
HobNoblin · 36-40, M
@ThePatientAnarchist Yup, you got it.
ThePatientAnarchist · 61-69
@HobNoblin okay, thanks for your answer to my question :)
carpediem · 61-69, M
Stick to Canadian politics and stay out of ours. As a Canadian you’d never understand eh.
ThePatientAnarchist · 61-69
@SumKindaMunster Thank you for a thoughtful answer. Where would you suggest I look for news updates?
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@ThePatientAnarchist I'd start with these people, most of them are on Substack: Sasha Stone, Matt Taibbi, and Michael Tracy.
Glenn Greenwald on Locals.com
Jimmy Dore and Joe Rogan on Youtube

Of course an objective observer would say the same of Biden and Obama and Bush and Clinton and Bush and Reagan and Carter and Ford and Nixon and Johnson and Kennedy and Eisenhower and Truman and Roosevelt and......
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@ThePatientAnarchist As has Trump.
ThePatientAnarchist · 61-69
@hippyjoe1955 Can you give examples of people in those positions saying no to Trump?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@ThePatientAnarchist If you haven't been keeping up then I am not here to provide such evidence to you. There have been a number of Trump's people who have said that Trump has made or is making a mistake if he goes down that path.
bioluminescent · 36-40, F

ThePatientAnarchist · 61-69
@bioluminescent Your comment is fascinating but elusive. Would you like to explain who is group A and who is group B? 🤔

@Strictgram You want specifics? Start with "drill baby drill" AND cutting off support to renewable energy, as if climate change wasn't bad enough already. Add tariffs on everybody and constant threats of more, screwing the world's economies. Then there's de facto allying with the autocrat Putin and letting Ukraine suffer.
Day after day, Trump comes out with decisions that are radical shifts from what was normal before. And my question -- like many other people's is -- how does his word then become law? He looks more and more like a dictator surrounded by yes-men.
My government is fine, thank you. Not perfect, but working like governments in democracies work.
