“The Original Sin was failing to send Donald Trump to Prison for the rest of his life for mounting a violent coup to overthrow the Election of 2020.”

As much as I believe Trump is a terrible human being and now actively trying to break America's superpower status, I still believe his rise to power is a symptom and not itself a cause. The original sin was in not building a society that supports and provides stability for all citizens. That lack of stability and security is what allowed scapegoating and fear-based politics to dominate the nation. And those fear-based politics are what led to the rise of Trump.

Had Trump been sent to prison, I still believe we would be riding into hell on a tsunami of misinformation, hatred, and fear. The wave would just be moving a bit slower. Which, a slower wave gives you more time to prepare and try to change course but I don't think Trump was the epicenter of this thing.

@ViciDraco Agreed, but it would have set a hell of a precedent.

Sadly, now, it is a fact that the POTUS is essentially above the law while he is in office. Trump could openly orchestrate a violent coup in 2028 should the GOP lose, and nothing could be done about it as he would still, technically, be in power.

@iamthe99 yes he could☹

@Wiseacre Well, put it this way, if that happened then the coup might be stopped, but he would be immune from prosecution.
