Can't for the life of me understand how politicians colluded with pharm makers to keep prescription drugs overpriced in the US for so long. People living along the Mexican border can just walk across the border and buy prescription medicine for 25 to 50 percent less than they pay in the US.

@Heartlander Even insulin, for a long while, was so horribly overpriced that diabetics regularly had to travel to Canada to buy it. Thankfully that was finally controlled.

@Heartlander i take pills for my cll, a form of luekimia, they cost $19 k a month, my insurance pays it . in 2035 thier rights expire, then anyone can make it generic, was told will cost around $50 a pill, big difference

@4meAndyou Yeah, I remember a few years ago the price of insulin was up drastically and then the government started an investigation and found out the the CEO..a woman I think had just received a pay raise and her salary was $12million.....the media went CRAZY and all of a sudden the price dropped....the pharmaceutical companies care more about profit then people...same with the health insurance companies

@4meAndyou Why did they pick out single medicines to make affordable, or one subgroup of Americans to help? To look at it from the other direction it like they intentionally want to keep prescription drugs unaffordable so we are forced to buy prescription drug insurance, they want to make prescription drugs unaffordable so they can help just some, like seniors only, or diabetes only.

@Heartlander Well, I DO know that without insulin, which diabetics need every day, they will die...so perhaps it was a question of how MANY diabetics were being crushed under the heel of big Pharma to the point where they had to choose to sacrifice everything else in their lives in order to pay the huge price to go on living.

@Heartlander when a new drug is made the drug company has rights to that pill for so many years no other company can make it, so they charge whatever they want, after so many years, the patent runs out, now any company can make it, then it becomes generic, and very cheap

@oldguy73 can't remember the name of it but there was one prescription drug that was simply a combination of 2 popular OTC drugs. So as a wise consumer the choice was to either split the two OTC pill in half and take half of each for 5 cents a dose or buy the prescription version at $30 a dose. Easy choice for smart consumers, not so for those who didn't know what they were prescribed.

@Heartlander Congress members are exempt from insider stock trading laws. They made sure to add that to the law that everyone else is supposed to abide by. So they can invest in pharmaceutical corporation stocks. I bet more than a few are pissed about now.
