A couple of thoughts on trump and the Pope

Having heard how trump will attend the Popes funeral, I am wondering just how far trump will go to make this all about him.. I am also wondering about the back room politics going on from other nations NOT to be seated near him..
Finally. If opposition to trump inside Amrica is genuine. Here is a real opportunity to have his return flight diverted to ElSalvador.. or Venezuela. Or Lapland. Terra del Fuego. Anywhere really...No reason required...😷

Vance is not allowed to go. Somebody has to stay back home to press the red nuclear launch button if required, anytime the President is away from town.

@zonavar68 There’s no law or constitutional bar that prevents the President and Vice‑President from showing up at the same social gathering. They routinely dine together at White House state dinners, inauguration balls, official receptions, etc.

The one “gotcha” comes in the realm of continuity‑of‑government and security:

By long‑standing practice, they avoid traveling together in the same aircraft or motorcade (so that a single catastrophic incident can’t wipe out both the President and the next in line).

But once they’re on the ground at an event or venue, there’s no rule stopping them from mingling in the same room.

So yes — outside of secure‑transport protocols, it’s perfectly normal (and very common) for the President and Vice‑President to attend the same social event, even if it's a funeral.
