What will Trump think about this?

About a month ago a Jan. 6th rioter was supposed to appear in court for his Jan. 6th sentencing. Instead he thought F that – Trump is going to pardon me so he took a ski trip to Canada. When he tried to leave Canada it was discovered that he entered Canada illegally – so it looks like he is going to do a bit of jail time anyway. Cheers!

I don't think he is going to do jail time, just sent back to the USA. He actually got what he wanted.

That's not how it went for the Jan 6th rioter who illegally entered Canada. When he came to Canada, he entered Canada by claiming asylum status because he was fleeing the USA as an American citizen who was facing persecution.

The Immigration department in Canada soon realized who the guy was and WHY he was claiming asylum status in Canada, mainly because he was a wanted man back in the USA by American authorities.

The Canadian Immigration authority then held the man in immigration custody (not prison) until he could be deported back to the USA where he belongs.

The fact that he was pardoned by Trump was irrelevant in the equation because deportation proceedings had already been underway for quite some time.

The US authorities will come into Canada sometime this week to pick this guy up and take him back to his own country, but he will permanently remain as a deported US citizen from Canada.

Despite him being pardoned by Trump, the guy has committed a Capital Offense in another country as described under Canadian Judicial Law and therefore is not allowed entry into Canada at ANY time in the future, regardless of what Trump does or doesn't do.

Yes, he was an asylum-seeker when he crossed the Canada/US border in BC and made his intentions known to that effect with a Canadian Border Guard upon entry. That is how he got into Canada in the first place because he just made that declaration right there at the border.

It doesn't matter that he avoided prosecution in the US, what matters is that his actions in the USA violate Canadian Law which every foreigner is subjected to in principle when they cross the border into Canada.

For example, a DUI charge in Canada is a Federal Offense, whereas a DUI committed in the USA is only a misdemeanor offense.

When an American who's been charged in the USA with a DUI charge even 30 years ago while on college spring break in Ft Lauderdale, but then suddenly comes to Canada today, he /she will be turned away at the Canadian border. This is because under Canadian Law, that American is guilty of a Federal Offense which is called a Capital Offense in Canada, the equivalent terminology being a 'Felony' in the USA and is therefore not permitted entry into Canada.

Donald J. Trump who was recently charged as a Convicted Felon in the USA is therefore not permitted to enter Canada even as President of the USA. That's why Trudeau's team had to go to Mara Largo to convene with Trump because Trump wasn't allowed into Canada because of his Felony conviction.
