Trump gives an incoherent response to a question on how he would reduce the cost of child care

Well, I would do that, and we're sitting down, and I was, somebody, we had Senator Marco Rubio, and my daughter Ivanka was so, uh, impactful on that issue. It's a very important issue. But I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I'm talking about, that, because, look, child care is child care is. Couldn't, you know, there's something, you have to have it – in this country you have to have it.

But when you talk about those numbers compared to the kind of numbers that I'm talking about by taxing foreign nations at levels that they're not used to — but they'll get used to it very quickly – and it's not gonna stop them from doing business with us, but they'll have a very substantial tax when they send product into our country. Uh, those numbers are so much bigger than any numbers that we're talking about, including child care, that it's going to take care.

Can someone translate? I don't speak MAGA. I think he's saying that this is an important issue that Senator Rubio and his daughter Ivanka were working on, and that he plans to impose tariffs on foreign goods to pay for child care. The problem is that tariffs are essentially a tax paid for by the consumer, so his plan will increase prices. Is he saying the resulting revenue will be sent in the form of payments to cover child care costs? Or is this just more incoherent bullshit?

The sad part is, after this incoherent attempt to put together a reply, everyone applauded.
@JSul3 he could recite mary had a little lamb and his crowds will scream and whistle. I don't think they actually listen to a word he says. They're just there to bask and cheer.
@JSul3 That encourages him. He thinks that they love his speeches. His speeches and interviews are becoming increasingly more incoherent. The more incoherent the less likely to be elected and then Vance will have to replace him as the candidate for President.
🤔Nah they would never do that to their "UnStable Genius".

Every time he speaks, it convinces me more that he's suffering aphasia.
@Richard65 You may be right. I think Trump meant to say "Child care is important. My daughter Ivanka and Senator Rubio were working on a child care bill. If I'm reelected, I plan to impose tariffs on foreign goods and use the money to assist parents with their child care costs." But he's lost the ability to express himself that clearly, if he ever had it.
I can explain the Ivanka/Rubio bit at the beginning.

Back in 2017, Ivanka was in the White House and lobbying for gov't spending for child care. Rubio pushed for and got a tax bill amendment that would allow up to a $2000 tax credit for child care (typical republican approach - address every problem with a tax cut).

The issue with the tax credit, though, is that the lowest income folks - the ones who most need child care - get only a very small tax benefit. Only higher income middle class folks get the full benefit. A $1 trillion bill that only offers a pittance to single moms under $20K who are most needy.

Oh, and the whole child care benefit thing expires in 2025 along with most of the individual tax cuts Trump passed in 2017; only the corporate tax cuts are permanent!

@MarmeeMarch Obama was responsible for 7 years of that growth; Trump only 3. So will you give Obama 70% of the credit for the economy under Trump??

Also, Biden took the Covid recovery and built on it, but you only give credit To tRump???

Speaking of Covid, my biggest objection to Trump is how badly he botched our Covid response.

All through Trump's term, our Covid per capita death rate was DOUBLE that of countries like Canada & Germany, resulting in about 550,000 Covid deaths under Trump.

If Trump had handled Covid as well as, say, Justin Trudeau, we'd have had 275,000 FEWER DEATHS! Put another way, Trump's mis-management of Covid cost more deaths than THREE Viet Nam wars!! Three Viet Nams in a SINGLE YEAR, not spread out over ten years like the actual war!!!

Sure, Covid came from outside. And different leaders in different countries managed it differently. Trump's piss-poor Covid management is made clear by the relative per capita death rates.

"I look at it this way," Birx told CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta. "The first time, we have an excuse. There were about 100,000 deaths that came from that original surge. All of the rest of them, in my mind, could have been mitigated or decreased substantially."

Here's my response to the same question on another thread: What Fox and MAGA heard: Child care, we need, so we'll take care of it. Thank you.

It can't be translated: its just random sounds which happen to have auditory similarities to words we use everyday

@thisguy20 Right?

You can't translate what he says, but what I think he is saying is that with the tariffs he wants, taxpayers won't have to pay taxes any longer (you could afford better childcare)... which we all know is B.S., but he said that.

Not only will that not happen, we will pay higher prices, so it would be a double whammy.
I think he's speaking in code to his foreign masters.

Makes as much sense as it having some actual meaning...
In the first two years of life the care you get is extremely important, but so is the state of your community.
Americans don't want to be forced to do good or correct things! Freedom in mishandling babies is key to endless wars. Yes you did know, and we see the dumb playing and kid ruining you meant. Always great again.
@Roundandroundwego That makes even less sense than Trump's babbling.

When do the dems care about babies. They are pro abortions.

Sounds to me like he considers it an issue, but nearly enough of an important one not to dodge the question entirely.
