Christian nationalist fascism is possibly just an election away. So much for the separation of church and state.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@windinhishair Paula White will be getting wet thinking about once again possible having a defacto appointment to the US government executive at it's highest levels to promote prosperity theology aka 'Pay the Lord'.
SW-User
@windinhishair Asking politely and not to start a debate but where in the 1st amendment do you find separation of church and state? All it says is that it prevents the government from establishing a religion. That leads me to my 2nd question, what religion are the Republicans trying to establish?

NOTE - we can have is discussion in private message. I’m interested in your thoughts on this matter.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SW-User You identified the amendment that establishes the separation of church and state. The Founding Fathers weren't against religion. They were against state sanctioned religion since the English monarchy were so entwined with the Anglican Church. Thousands of court cases have upheld that separation ever since. Christianity is the religion that the Trump Cult is pushing right now, to the exclusion of others. It isn't one particular denomination.
SW-User
@windinhishair America was founded on Christian principles. I’ll vote for Trump but I’m not part of the trump cult as you call it. But we do have the right to exercise the freedom of our religion. Christianity was before trump so you can’t rightfully associate it with him or his followers.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SW-User The Founders were very careful not to adopt one particular religion due to their fear of ending up like England with the integration of religion and the monarchy. You have the right to practice your religion in the US, but so do Muslims and Jews and others. You also have the right not to have a religion.

I most certainly can associate Christianity with Trump and his followers since they want that religion and its principles to be part of how we are governed.
SW-User
@windinhishair I’m also against a state sponsored religion. There are many elected officials that are of different faiths that influences them.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SW-User Our diversity as a nation is our great strength, and it is being tested right now by a minority that wants to impose their will upon the majority. The majority will not let them in the end.
SW-User
@windinhishair That’s pretty generic. The minority of what? What about the minority of the “I was born a man but I identify as a woman and you have to refer to me by my correct pronoun or I’ll get triggered” crowd? Yeah. Im not letting them win.
Shadyglow · F
@windinhishair but it wont be an election. It will be manufactured consent if he snatches it. But people hate Chomsky cause he's an incomprehensible egghead

who is consequently ignored

Trump actually asked the world to pity him and he was serious. We should cry for that monster and people comply

His audience is the broken and wounded and destroyed past immigrants from Italy and France and Slovenia and Poland and Africa and South America..who once believed in the better life America could supposedly offer, and it actually almost worked for a while.

They want to love other broken people. They are good workers and caregivers at home. THEY ARE NOW ALL BEING EXPLOITED for their BEST qualities and we cant let that happen!!!! So lets not.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow You may be picking up more than a few residents if fascism wins.
SW-User
@windinhishair We don’t want to be a socialist country.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@SW-User

Here is the problem that can arise in the future by establishing any one religion with the logic you are using, and not understanding exactly why we have separation of church and state.

Establishing a religion that is Christian based is fine for you now, but what if more Muslim's immigrate to America and you find yourself not in the majority when it comes to the dominant religion in this country. Already having ignored the "separation of church and state," you now allow a dominant religion that is not your own to establish their religion as the Ruling Religion and then you've put yourself in a situation where you can actually be persecuted. It is best to leave "Freedom of Religion" just as it is, and allow everyone to practice the religion of their choice without anyone feeling the need to establish their religion of choice as "the standard."
@SW-User Tell me without telling me you don't understand what socialist means.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SW-User So for you, the election is about your team and winning. You clearly don't understand what socialism is, and are eager for fascism so you won't have to have your team lose.

The "minority" is people who support Trump and fascism. Trump has never even approached having the support of half of the nation. Do you think that 40% of the nation should rule the other 60%? That is what your "team" wants to do, as Project 2025 lays out in great detail.

@windinhishair I do not agree with the platform of the Democratic Party. Never have and never will as long as they have the agenda they have. With that being said, I’ll never vote for any Democratic candidate.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@SW-User

what "agenda" do they have and how does this "agenda" violate the Constitution?
SW-User
Obviously there’s different agendas or directions, maybe a better word than agenda, between the two parties. Im pro gun and pro life, which the majority of democrats aren’t.

I never said anything about violating the constitution.
WillieT · 61-69, M
@SW-User There has long been some confusion between the first amendment and Jefferson's letter to the Danbury baptists, assuring that per the second amendment, the new govt. will not interfere with their right to worship. The first amendment states that the govt. will neither establish a state religion nor prohibit the right of the people to worship, or not, as they please, the second part of which is usually, 'conveniently', omitted.
And despite claims to the contrary, electing a candidate with personal beliefs is not, in any way, establishing a state religion.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@WillieT

Well said. But let's be honest, the First Amendment doesn't need to be interpreted, It is clearly stated.
SW-User
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Oh I know exactly what it is.
WillieT · 61-69, M
@calicuz Yes it is, though some who like to pick and choose seem to need reminders of the full context
calicuz · 56-60, M
@SW-User

Im pro gun and pro life, which the majority of democrats aren’t.

Thank you for explaining yourself, since many "MAGAs" have a difficult time explaining themselves. For decades I've hear a lot of "They're want to take away our guns," when nothing was farther from the truth. Sensible gun legislation is not taking away our guns, and if people would just read the Constitution, and stop using that stupid "Militia" argument, they would find that taking guns from "The People," is a violation of the Constitution.

Does pro Life to you mean forcing a rape victim or a teen caring her father's child shouldn't be allowed to terminate the pregnancy?
SW-User
@calicuz And the income tax was temporary too. When the government starts something they keep going.

No one said anything about rape victims. But can you give the statistics of abortions because of rape? How many? I’m not saying there shouldn’t be provisions. Thanks for assuming though.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@SW-User

No, that's why I was asking your opinion. I wasn't judging, and I'm sorry that much can get "lost in translation" on the net. 🤷
