Trump appeals colorado and maine rulings to the supreme court -
Plenty of risk here for Trump:
1) Court sends it back down as a state issue - More states do the same.
2) Court affirms it - More states do the same
3) Court overturns it on procedural grounds? Then the court must say what procedure was not followed, giving states a roadmap as to how to file their cases that meet proper procedures - more states then take that course.
4) Court says decision was wrong? That implies states cannot make their own rules regarding who goes on the ballot and how they choose their electors, throwing a whole bunch of state laws and electoral college in question. Generally, republicans want less federal control over elections.
Perhaps the best course of action would have been for Trump to figure he would likely not have won Maine or Colorado anyway, and not appealed the decisions.
