I've never understood why and how a pedophile, drug addict can become such a cultural icon, a person to worship and even a role model for so many Americans.
Is it the power of the media? How? Why?
I'm old and clueless. Enlighten me, please.

@Tres13 I see. My mistake.

@MrBrownstone The rest was just a question. Why the appeal of a pedophile drug addict?

@Heartlander are you ok? Not sure if you stumbled into the right post

@Thecollective Oh, sorry :) I came into this thread at the comment level rather than the top and was really reacting to the image of Michael Jackson.
Like how and why we create superstars and why some cling to them after their gold star has been tarnished
30+ years ago I participated in Jackson's super stardom achievement by taking my then 13 year old daughter and friend to his Liberty Tour performance at Arrowhead stadium.There we were in the end zone upper deck with the stage 100 yards away, and after spending $200 for tickets, and getting there an hour early, and what we saw was like watching an ant on the far side of a room, and my reaction then was questioning my own sanity for being there. So the picture of Jackson posted above triggered that memory and the whole idea of how superstars get created.

@Heartlander the same way Trump became an icon. People see different things in different people.
