Is Alina Habba Trump's Roy Cohn?

She's advocating for her client for sure, and while I hope she's not successful, I admire her efforts and hope she gets paid, or at least gets in line with all his other creditors.

The only way she will see a cent is if it is someone else's money through a PAC or RNC. Trump stiffs everyone who works for him.
@windinhishair Well, yeah, but Trump's been paying his bills with other people's money for decades.

@MistyCee That's what I'm saying. Trump never pays. There is a high likelihood of getting stiffed or blamed for Trump's crimes.
@windinhishair Not that I'd ever want to represent Trump, but if I was, I'd want to bill the time and get my bills in as quick as possible right now, while the RNC is still paying them, he could pay them out of his leadership PAC, and the Trump Organization hasn't been given a corporate death sentence.

As far as representation goes, Trump seems to have gotten himself into a really small market these days, with folks who are willing to risk their licenses and reputations, and are able to afford to gamble on the big payoff. Habba seems to be just about right, and she's politically aligned and might work longer for less money, but he seems to be more interested in folks like this guy from Atlanta for folks like Dershowitz or Cippolone, who probably won't stick with him.

@MistyCee Trump is entitled to representation, which comes with an obligation to pay them. His attorneys do get exposure to MAGA World and this may help or hurt them in their future endeavors. If they approach his business as a loss leader, I have no problem with that.

I would be shocked if Cippolone does anything with Trump again. Dershowitz I could see continuing to support him as he continues to descend into MAGA World.
@windinhishair Cippolone, having taken the White House Counsel gig, may not have many more options, depending of course, what happens in 2024.

Dershowitz, I think, is pretty much a free agent, and has always seemed pretty careful about descending too far in Trump world, going back to academia, or even taking cases that won't turn into lucrative book deals. I expect he's approachable.

And yeah, I agree, any lawyers that want to gamble on representing Trump should be free to, and he should be able to hire them, but damn, if there's not a more treacherous client out there, I can' think of one. He's more likely to be a last client than anyone else I can think of.

@MistyCee Anyone that takes on Trump as a client proves P. T. Barnum correct that there is a sucker born every minute.
@windinhishair And yet, my guess is, it probably paid off for Dershowitz, who's biggest seller has probably yet to be written.

Seems like a risk/reward thing at this point, and the actual fees probably aren't as big of a thing as the possibility of losing her license or cashing in on a book or movie down the road.
