The DOJ asked the Court to unseal the Trump Search warrant?

That's rich, and weird as hell.

I'm not buying that it actually makes Garland "partisan" politically, but it's a great move for the prosecution bound by law and custom working against a potential criminal/suspect who's willing to lie about anything and everything and never be subjected to perjury.

We'll see how it plays out.

Edit: Transcript of Garland's remarks:

Trump has three options:
1. Agree to the release of the documents.
2. Disagree with the release of the documents.
3. Release the documents himself.

None of the three are beneficial to Trump. He could release a version of the documents that changes factual information to his benefit, and tell his attorneys to oppose the release of the documents from the Court. This would be consistent with his propensity to lie bigly and tell the story he wants to tell without regard for fact. One would hope that should he choose this route, the Court would release the action documents so people can see his lies.
@windinhishair Predicition. While you're basically right, Trump will stall, tell his attorneys to oppose for awhile, and figure out how to spin the stuff loudly and simply enough, just like he did with Barr's summary of the Mueller report.

The American public is not going to read a long warrant, but they might swallow a short and misleading summary.

@MistyCee That can work for a short while, but the Judge will issue a schedule for responses which will help mitigate the delay tactics.
@windinhishair Who's going to read the pleadings?

This idea about the truth coming out eventually seems antiquated these days.

I'm no criminal lawyer, but it seems likely Trump has weeks of not months for his lawyers to stall while he spins whatever is in the warrant with lies that can't be contradicted until later.

We've got at least the district and appellate courts to go through, in addition to maybe Reinhart again and maybe the Supremes.

@MistyCee The Judge has just given Trump until tomorrow to respond. This is going to go quickly.

@MistyCee It wasn't reported a few minutes ago, but I am assuming it was Reinhart based on the speed with which action was taken.

I agree with you we need to get past this so additional triggered Trumpers don't attack FBI offices or other people like someone tried to do in Cincinnati this morning with an assault weapon and a nail gun. That man is currently in a standoff with police between Cincinnati and Columbus.
@windinhishair This says 8/25 for Trump to respond. Seems more likely.

@MistyCee Looks like we are both correct. Trump has until tomorrow at 3 PM to make a determination IF he is going to oppose the release. IF he makes that determination, he has until August 25 to file the formal response with justification.
@windinhishair Nice. Harder for his lawyers to avoid sanctions that way.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MistyCee Of course, Trump could always object, control the narrative (somewhat damaged by not wanting to release the documents), and then release it anyway instead of filing their formal objection. But that would give him a couple more weeks of lies.
@windinhishair If Trump's opposition is due on the 25th, there's probably a Reply memo date for the DOJ and at least a couple of days before you could see an opinion.

If it's the Magistrate though, there may be an almost built in appeal to the district court. I'm not a Florida Criminal lawyer, but I wouldn't expect this to be done until at least a month or two.

@MistyCee As you said earlier, Trump will do everything he can to stall proceedings. He's focused on making it to January when and if Republicans take the house, and he can use the GOP to obstruct and end many proceedings. That won't impact state indictments, but it could lessen pending federal charges.

4. Release the Sharpie version

@SW-User His Cult would worship every bold stroke of the Sharpie.
