Is there really a way to prevent jobs leaving a country? Do governments make jobs leave a country or is it simply companies following cheaper labour? Do you enact protectionist policies preventing foreign imports but still expect to be allowed to export. Without foreign currency exchange the US could not borrow and without that it would be broke. I see the migration of jobs to other countries in my work. I have to learn an Indian dialect to get my accounting software fixed but I don't see government regulation helping. The West cannot match the cheap labour of the east but we can do things they can't. The improvement in the living standards of those poorer economies is actually good news because they will have more disposable income and will want products that can only realistically be produced in the west. King Canute eventually drowned so I think we embrace the change or go under. Bush was projecting a super power america and policeman of the world, but Obama is dealing with a different situation. The Us will profit more in co-operatin with the rest ofthe world and not repeating it's unedifying foreign policy of overt and covert interference. Your model of petro-chemical free market economics works for you (or at least it did until a while ago) but is is not a universal panacea.

The policies to which I refer as "working" was near 100 years ago and we aren't paying for those. Progressives began taking over again by the name Hoover. He was only elected because he was a Republican and after Harding and Coolige any Republican would have won regaurdless of thier bieliefs. The rest has been a visious cycle of progressives followed by not as progressives. The least of the evils durring that time has been Reagan by signing the tax cut which allowed economic growth for two decades. Increased government spending followed by deficites has brought us to economic ruins one again. Frankly, I don't give a damn what someone else told you as to what poilicies made who rich or who else richer, I give a damn what makes sense for me and my ability to put food in the mouths of my wife and two children and I can tell you as well as any non Socialist, government aint the answer. Never has been, never will be. The individual is all that can do it.

Paul Harvey said the answer is usally somewhere between the two, but neither will take the walk to the center, to even consider doing things right. Lately the Democrates have not even considered any compromise, as they had the hammer. I believe in the right of choice and freedom to make it, your facts are bias, because the deregulation of the S&L's were from Democratic controlled House and Senate, the Democratic Keating five, and actions Speaker of the house Wright was major factors in the down fall of the S&L's.
If the Republicans lied about weapons of mass destruction, so did the Democrats, because they also supported military actions based upon the same intel.
I spoke out when the Republicans along with the Democratic Senate voted for the war powers act.

One problem, American military retired say there was WMD in Iraq. They saw them and I believe them. I have a problem with Obama relationships with the wrong people that do not have our country's best intrest. Somebody that has no voting record on contraversial issues, he didn't vote that day. Livingwell, if you reject examples of which economic policies have worked and which ones haven't then there is no more point having this debate with you. I will comment though, I am a small buisiness owner (in fact I have two small buisinesses) we are the backbone of the nations economy and I can tell you that conservative economic poolicies are as benneficial to me as to anyone. The problem with the left today is that you sem to want to punishe he who has more than you. Which of course, makes it just a tiny bit harder to bitch about Reagan while he was President.

I voted for Bush in 2000 with the honest belief he was a conservative and that he would perform as so. I voted against John Kerry on 2004 because he was the worst of the two. In 2008 I voted against Obama because I saw him as the Fascist he has turned out to be. As for jobs going over seas, how about we don't blame the presidient who allowed it to take place, but the policies which make it look appealing.
