It baffles me that people think Hitler was a socialist
Because he used the word as part of the name of the nazi party.

That’s because they don’t know what socialism is. Hitler filled concentration camps with actual socialists, right along with communists. He was much more supportive of fascism. The "National Socialist" party was no more socialist than the "People’s Republic of China" is republican.
