A combination of reasons. One being that he feared being captured alive when the Allied Forces invaded Berlin, that I'm most certain of. All other reasons why he took his own life, we can only speculate.

@Mysterion619 History is a subject I've always been fascinated with for as long as I can remember. As such, I've devoted most of my life to studying it. I understand the fact that you're joking about it here, but being a history buff with a straight A average, it thus becomes in my very nature to take it seriously. I like a good joke as much as the next person, but if you had passionately devoted yourself to a subject, be it history, art, philosophy, or anything for that matter, you might take it seriously, too.
