The King is tossing him out of the Royal Residence, does this mean he's going homeless, or will he move to Hollywood? With two (former) Royals in town, maybe three if his ex wife joins, they can start something like Royals Of Hollywood Royals Entertainment Spectacle (HORES).

@Northwest Must try harder!
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Northwest Overloooking the shallowness of your other remarks, no he will not be homeless. He is moving into a small home on the Sandringham Estate, which is the family's private property.
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
@ArishMell Small, but not as we understand the word.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@SchoolBelle Possibly not but I don't know the details of the particular house. The point is that he has lost living in a grace-and-favour home I think is State-owned.
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
@ArishMell Yes, it is the personal property of the King, who will now subsidise his existence.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@SchoolBelle how does a king have personal property? I thought the crown owns it all.
Northwest · M
@ArishMell did I offend royal watchers? So I guess he will ow go to sleep and wait until a little princess kisses him so he can become a prince again?
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
@samueltyler2 The royal family, the Windsors (or, to give them their proper name, the von Battenburgs) own certain properties persoally. Sandringham Estate, all 20,000 acres of it, is one such.

The geeat royal palaces, such as Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace, belong tothe Crown Estates, a government body.

The full details of the constitutional arrangements are too lengthy to expound here. I suggest you check out Wiki.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@SchoolBelle my friends in a suburb of London 'bought" their home, but not the land it is on, that is the crown's.
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
@samueltyler2 So, they have bought a lease on the property but not on the land.

Sorry, my previous answer is not clear. The Crown Estates are legally owned by the Monarch but they have no control over them and derive no income from them. Any profit from the Crown Estates goes direct to the British government.

This is why Andrew's position at Widsor was untenable. He was technically living free at the British taxpayers expense.

Private holdings, such as Sandringham, are not part of the CE.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@SchoolBelle i am sure the money used to buy the private properties came as part of income from the crown.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@samueltyler2 Actually the Crown Estate, especially the Duchy of Cornwall, pays the Treasury a considerable sum of money annually.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@ArishMell i thought it was all in the other direction.
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
@ArishMell About £5bn total over the past 10 years. The Sovereign Grant, paid by HM Govermnment, is now 12% of government receipts from Crown Estates, although it has been higher.

The Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall are private holdings of the Monarch and the PoW respectively. They are not psrt of the Crown Estates.
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
@samueltyler2 His statement is not accurate.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@SchoolBelle whose?
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
