I don't understand how he can cease to be a Prince, which is not a given title, like Duke of York, but a rank that stemmed automatically from the fact that he was the son of the late Queen. I and others have made this point elsewhere, and have yet to receive a satisfactory answer.

@MartinII Yes the Prince part isn’t like a title that can just be taken away, since Andrew was born a prince as QE2's son.
But the Palace’s statement means the King has started the formal process to remove his royal "style", basically the right to use the title “Prince” or “His Royal Highness.” It doesn’t rewrite who his parents were, but he'll nonetheless stop being referred to as Prince Andrew officially.
So, yes you’re right that it’s not as simple as taking away Duke of York, but KC3 can issue formal documents (called Letters Patent) that make the change official. That’s what’s happening now. He was born a prince, but the King can decide he’s no longer treated or styled as one.
Plus let's not forget that he was only a prince because his ancestors were bigger murdering bastards than yours or mine.

@MartinII You need to read up on Letters Patent - and not just the Google AI mash up.
