Musk No Longer Pretending To Be Objective

Looks like he's got a hit list of Democrat lawmakers.

Senator Elizabeth Warren tweeted:

Let’s be clear: President Biden has the legal authority to cancel student debt. Republican officials need to get out of the way so Americans can get this much-needed relief.

"Twitter" added the following to Senator Warren's tweet, under the header "Readers added context they thought people might want to know":

[quote"...experts disagree on whether the president can authorize widespread debt cancellation through an executive order."

https://www.politifact.com/article/2021/jun/14/can-student-loan-debt-be-canceled-presidents-execu/

"...the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in October temporarily blocked the student loan forgiveness program in response to an emergency motion..."

Interesting way of making the platform open to free speech.

As much as I don't like Elon Musk or the average republican, I don't see the problem here. The articles seem fairly objective and if it is more complicated than the tweet claims, an explanation of why it unfairly puts all blame on republicans is only fair. There are plenty of things that are solely their fault, so oversimplifying this situation isn't needed to discredit them.

@NerdyPotato I believe you missed the point. He said he bought Twitter, to prevent policing of free speech. It's NOT about whether the counter-opinion is fair or not.
@Northwest he's not deleting the false statement though and free speech doesn't mean speech without responses or consequences. I still fail to see how this goes against his promise to protect against being arrested for voicing your opinion, as this isn't an opinion and there is no talk about arrest.

Arrested? I don't get what you're saying.

He primary issue, was when Twitter was tagging certain tweets with added comments. Yet, he's doing exactly that. Why did he pick Senator Warren?
@Northwest you may want to look up what freedom of speech means.

I still don't know what "arrest" has to do with it. I know what freedom of speech means, perhaps you should look it up yourself?
@Northwest
Freedom of speech[2] is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or a community to articulate their opinions and ideas without fear of retaliation, censorship, or legal sanction.

Was there retaliation, censorship or legal sanction here? I don't think so. 🤷 I believe that fact-checking is a necessity when leaving everything up. If he does that only to democrats and leaves republican lies and half-truths unchallenged, there would be a problem. But providing context to certain tweets on both sides of the political spectrum has been done for years. Was Elon even involved in this particular addition?

@NerdyPotato You continue to argue a point I am not making.

I said that Musk bought Twitter, because he wanted everyone to be able to have unrestricted rights to post, without being censored, or deleted.

He specifically called out fact checking tweets, as a form of censorship. Yet, he's engaging in censorship, by doing exactly that.

I was fine with the fact checking that Twitter and Facebook were doing. He was not.
@Northwest ah, thanks for explaining. I don't think adding context is censorship, but if he said he did consider it that way and still continues it, then that's a bit weird. On the other hand, it's only been a week or so and he can't change every policy and retrain employees overnight, so maybe he hadn't gotten around to stop that practice yet?

@NerdyPotato No, this is new behavior. The previous warnings used to have a different format. The format is a new feature.
@Northwest then I stand corrected and he definitely came back on his promise.
