My dad, before he passed last year, but funny this comed up. I was thinking yesterday I would like to visit an elderly neighbor who moved to a nursing home, I used to wave hello and chat all the time. I think a visit would be good for both of us.

My father who is in his 90s has a lot of stresses but I give him reasons to smile by my good deeds

It used to be my job. I loved her.

I have no elders in my life anymore.

I'm the elderly person
@justbob You call that old?😷
DancesWithWolves · 56-60, M
I spend everyday with my elderly cousin and I make her smile. I used to do the same with my grandparents but they passed away.

In my early thirties I used to visit this couple with a lodger. He was ninety three, with a clubbed foot. He used to come out of his room and chat to me about cricket. He used to hand stitch cricket balls as a job.

Always sad, he told me his friends had all died. The couple told me, he would only ever come down and talk to me.
I’ll be tending to my narcissistic mother today .. so today

All the time
Does being with myself count? Sometimes I make me smile. Sometimes I even make me laugh.
Ontheroad · M
@Mamapolo2016 same here - I'm constantly laughing at myself.
@Ontheroad by Robert Frost

There is a singer everyone has heard,
Loud, a mid-summer and a mid-wood bird,
Who makes the solid tree trunks sound again.
He says that leaves are old and that for flowers
Mid-summer is to spring as one to ten.
He says the early petal-fall is past
When pear and cherry bloom went down in showers
On sunny days a moment overcast;
And comes that other fall we name the fall.
He says the highway dust is over all.
The bird would cease and be as other birds
But that he knows in singing not to sing.
The question that he frames in all but words
Is what to make of a diminished thing.
Ontheroad · M
@Mamapolo2016 and now you've made me smile... that knowing, understanding smile.

I laugh at myself on the regular. Does that count?

I took two of my books over to Hannah yesterday for her grand children. She's a retired psychologist. 92 years old, deaf as a post but a voracious reader. Got into a discussion about the book, "How to Know a Person" by David Brooks. Had a great time.
lonelyloner · 31-35, F
nearly 3 years ago I look after him regular and always try to made him smile but unfortunately i really can't hold him much longer in my life , still i feel for him when looking his chair at lawn or dining
Yesterday. Visited my dad. Didn't have much time but in half a hour I aided him as far that you could relax after his afternoon walk. He hasn't been on a walk for years. Great to see him smile.
TheRealBarbossa · 36-40, T

How do you define elderly?
@peterlee

Someone who prefaces many a conversation with "back in my day".
peterlee · M
@rinkydinkydoink Yes, my Second in Faculty was like that. Only forty when I arrived. In fact most of my team were stuck in the past , and they were in their thirties. I laughed and said, when you have been working as long as I have, you get used to change.

Years ago. I hate old people
