Something beautiful in the midst of something miserable

A few days ago, my wife and I departed on a road trip to visit various friends and family members. However, she fell in the shower of our motel room and had to go to the emergency room. Nothing is broken, but she badly bruised her ribs. She is in a lot of pain and can barely move.

So, we drove back home, with her lying down in the back seat of the car.

At one point, we stopped at a wayside rest area to give her a break from lying down. She needed my help in order to sit up, to get out of the car, to get back in, to lie down. Also for sitting and rising from a toilet. (Fortunately the place was pretty deserted)

But there was one other vehicle parked there, which neither of us paid much attention to.

We finally were back in the car eating lunch, when the driver from that other vehicle appeared at my window and knocked on the glass. He waved a wad of bills at me.

I opened the window, and he handed me the money , saying "This if for taking care of her."

I was stunned. All I could think of to say was "thank you." He walked back to his vehicle and drove off.

It was $100. I wish I could have thought of more to say to the man.

My wife and I were very touched.

I'm sorry to hear that she fell and is in pain and can barely.move. That sounds miserable. :/

I'm glad she has you to help take care of her. I really hope she recovers swiftly and the pain eases quickly.

And it was nice of that man to notice what was going on and care that you were being a good husband and taking care of her. Maybe he knew someone that didn't have anyone to help them?

My mother had a fall in a hotel bathroom once and she's always afraid dad will fall too. They bring their own anti slip bathmats and things along when they need to stay overnight somewhere now just for safety.

@shakemeup Thank you very much for your kind words
She continues to improve.

I will always wonder about that man's history. I think about possibilities like the one you suggested.

I bet that was scary when your mom fell. I think we will travel with a mat too?

That was a very nice story.

I went to the grocery store the other day and saw a lady with a young child, maybe 4 years old.
He was playing around on the pallets in the store and she spoke to him politely and calmed him down in a nice soft tone.
I started to tell her how nice she was being but I don't wanna be awkward, so I went on to the wine aisle 🫣

@rosyhills I bet she would have appreciated it. But still, it was good of you to notice that about her. Many others would not have.

Wow. It’s wonderful that the beauty of your care was recognized and could be acknowledged. Very heartwarming. I hope your wife recovers quickly. 🤗💕

@JustNik Thank you! 🤗 She is already improving, although she has a long way to go.

It seems the stranger was moved/touched also, by compassion for you and your wife...and your patience with and compassion, caring for her. Maybe he knew from personal experience how much it means to others, especially during an awful time, to have someone recognize and feel what you are going through.

@Piper I will always wondered what his experiences had been and what was going through his mind.

WOW!!! That is an incredible occurrence! Obviously he was touched by your tender care of your wife. Who knows what happened in HIS life that made him appreciate your care of her SO much? Something sad, I fear.

I hope she recovers quickly.
