Would this work to curb gun violence? When you purchase a gun, two other people have to sign that they believe you will be a responsible gun owner. If your gun is used for any illegal activities, all 3 of you lose the right to own guns or recommend others for life. For every new gun you buy, you need 2 different people to vouch for you. To buy an automatic weapon, you need 8 people to vouch for you.

@nylonscape I'm not a believer in gunfree zones. Ban guns, or bullets, and only the people who ignore bans (ie criminals) will have them, and they will go to their nearest gunfree zone like they always have historically and wreak mayhem safely. But put in a vouch system and you get 2 benefits. Upstanding citizens have a higher chance of getting guns than social misfits. And when a gun has been detected in the use of criminal activity, you flag both the perpetrator and 2 of their potential buddies for scrutiny.
