Were you more kind when you were younger than you are now? Or are you getting more kind with age?

I was more kind when I was ignorant to the ways of people. And being a people pleaser made me ignore red flags I shouldn’t have. But with more exposure to their cruelty, my heart has been worn down a bit but it sort of needed to be so I could see certain people for what they really are and act accordingly for my own self-preservation.

@PerfectionOfTheHeart Exactly this for me too. I no longer accept people at face value. They either prove themselves to be who they say they are, or I waste no time on them. While it may sound cold, it is, like you say, for self preservation. I do think as my heart has worn down, it has also become harder and less resilient.
