Happiness is not a reliance on others to produce it. That’s dependence and not many ‘addicts’ are truly happy.

True happiness is contentment in who you are and what you do regardless of others.

Very eloquently and uniquely put. Although I don't believe the individual who said "Happiness is only real when shared" meant that it was reliance on others to produce it. Like I said to others in the comments section: To give context, the quote "Happiness only real when shared" is from Chris McCandless, who traveled the earth for two years, eventually to end up in Alaska, where after a long hike down the Stampede trail he found a bus that he survived on for four months and then died. These were his last words. Before walking off into the wild, he stated this "You are wrong if you think Joy emanates only or principally from human relationships. God has placed it all around us. It is everything and anything we might experience."
