I'm so lucky
I try to remind myself on a daily basis to be grateful for what I have in life.
Yesterday was one day where that didn't require much effort. We met up with my daughter, her husband and their daughter and my son his wife and their equally beautiful daughter.
All my family together at once. With distance, my son lives about 90miles away and time pressures we don't get together all at the same time too often.
We met at a wildlife park. So the two toddlers were excited by various animals and birds but typically more excited when they saw a sit on tractor in the play area.
Super time. Laughs and fun the little ones squealing and holding hands when they first met up.
Chats with my son who's just about to move jobs into the demonic world of AI consulting. My daughter talking about how to try to move her secondment to a permanent role and where their planning permission for an extension has got to. My daughter in law moaning about another change of administration and having to start explaining everything again to a new minister. It's no wonder our civil servants get nothing done I lost count of the list of ministers she went through she's had since Brexit. My son in law being upbeat that as the site on Bermondsey wraps up he and his dad have landed a new contract in Blackfriars. An area I worked in briefly 40 years ago so I was telling him my old commute pattern.
But then conversations about our eldest granddaughter moving up at nursery and doing science lessons. She's not 2 yet l! And how potty training is going. Yesterday she smashed it being out all day without any accidents. The other one is getting on at nursery too and was talking to me in sign language as they have a deaf child in her class. I'm deaf and tried to learn but I rely on hearing aids and lip reading too much. But her saying thank you with signs as I cut up her strawberry almost made me cry. She can sign Granddad Deaf really well too.
I'm so profoundly grateful. I live in England through luck I'm white, male, heterosexual and Christian. I never sleep outside in the cold, I've plenty of food, water, energy etc etc etc
