A reason for gratitude (and hope) for 2024 in the USA

Considering the rising threat of "Christian" nationalism and the increasing push for fascism in the US there appears to be a rising star on the horizon, someone most of us least expected. A man affectionately referred to as "Major Pete"

South Bend Indiana not long ago was considered one of the ten most decaying cities in the USA. Pete Buttigieg has won much support by both parties Democrats and Republicans alike. A Harvard graduate, Rhodes scholar, military hero, who speaks seven languages has managed to have made huge gains in restoring South Bend to industrial respectability.

Not only restoring industrial sites but raising the minimum wage for workers Pete Buttigieg has demonstrated both the energy, and passion for pro-active leadership that has captured the interest and enthusiasm of voters all over the USA.

He has the empathy and integrity that is so lacking in other politicians. His personal history is flawless, his dedication to improving quality of life for All people is clearly evident. I, (among many others) sincerely hope he considers throwing his hat into the ring as a presidential candidate in 2024.

My only caveats are age and National experience. Its ironic though that talking to a friend before the 2020 Presidential race we agreed the last thing we needed was "another geriatric case"

Maybe 2028??

I think being a politician in the 21st century is a thankless difficult job
@bookerdana Even though Pete hasn't the "national" experience he has already demonstrated his skills and abilities exceed most of the past presidents I've seen in my lifetime. "Bedtime for Bonzo" wasn't exactly the stuff of Winston Churchill for RR. Trump was a mental midget with an IQ of about 70.

@Grateful4you Reagan would have been the same at 40 😄 I don't even say the word T****....youngest US Presidents were Theodore Roosevelt and Kennedy 43 and 42 respectively,Roosevelt by means of assassination...He had been Governor and VP.
I am looking at Beto for 2020 if he beats Greg Abbott I could change as events unfold
@bookerdana Pete is 40. Theodore Roosevelt was 42 at the start of his presidency. JFK was 43. So in two years, Pete would be the age of both, roughly.
@bookerdana I honestly forgot about Beto. He would be a great candidate. Kennedy probably would have qualified for your concerns regarding "national experience" since he struggled with issues like the infamous "Bay of pigs" learning to govern via advice of his inner circle and Joe.

@Grateful4you Beto has the reputation of being one of the hardest workers in politics.....but if Biden runs it puts the Democrats in a quandry😟
@bookerdana Biden ( I think ) has good intentions but you and I both know what that road leads to. He should just retire and enjoy whats left of his life. We really NEED someone willing to roll up their sleeves and seriously address where things are at. Legalizing weed is fine but hardly touches serious issues this country is facing.
bookerdana · M
@Grateful4you I think JB ought to retire but🤷‍♀️
@bookerdana Yup...the big "BUT" as alway's. Time will tell. My big concern is DeSantis. I didn't think things could be worse than Trump...foiled again.
bookerdana · M
@Grateful4you @Grateful4you "Time will tell" the old Doonesbury journalists line....Its a tricky situation for Biden who doesn't want to be seen as a lame duck, but shouldn't wait till its too late for others to mount a campaign.

Don't mention BS DS or Abbott🤢 i just ate
@bookerdana You just ate and my blood pressure throbs like Studio 54 on a Saturday night. No more politics for this dumbass tonight.
bookerdana · M
@Grateful4you I THINK Studio 54 closed..didn't they....after the last 20 years I will never vote RED
@bookerdana Yup, closed, lock, stock and barrel and the one partner died I think. Somehow the word "conservative" rings of the absurd. Mom was conservative in basic black with pearls. MTG is about as conservative as Janis Joplin full tilt boogie.
bookerdana · M
@Grateful4you Please don't sully Janis' name with that garbage scow
@bookerdana No kidding. That was inappropriate, sorry.
bookerdana · M
@Grateful4you Never mind that she is pure Q but harassing the kids who survived Sandy Hook and taping it herself..that crosses a simple line of decency
@bookerdana I heard something about that...REALLY totally disgusting, what is it that drives such abhorrent behavior? it blows my mind.
bookerdana · M
@Grateful4you shes not the only one, some show up at the grieving parents houses😡
@bookerdana I'm trying NOT to hate. but...damn, those people have to be some kind of sub-human, it's a profound mental illness. It's a good thing I haven't the authority to have them institutionalized. Massive doses of electro-shock "therapy" and that's just for starters.
bookerdana · M
@Grateful4you the alternative facts crowd join the dark side
@bookerdana I wonder where all of this is headed? Young people...to have to deal with this in the not so far future. Will they tolerate much more of this or just be dulled into a state of mindless lethargy? Really very sad.
bookerdana · M
@Grateful4you I've had the same fears..maybe they will rise up and trash the Corporatocracy
@bookerdana I hope so. I sure encourage them to act up, as you said, "trash the corporatocracy" It's gotten way beyond out of control. I've never seen anything this bad in the US in my lifetime. Trump is already making threats blatantly encouraging MAGA to rise up and start more violence. Knowing no one is going to hold him accountable.

People keep saying "He's not above the law" yet his threats aren't even thinly veiled, no attempt on his part to even try sounding self restrained.

@Grateful4you I saw a video about a Republican plan to challenge results in every precinct in the US on the day of the election, causing chaos and doubt about the results, also a short about a guy who lost his mind during the pandemic and shot his family over the election of 2020....unsettling to say the least
@bookerdana I read something about that, killed four people and the family dog. It's become total insanity. And such atrocities have become so common place it's no more disturbing to the general public than a 12 year old stealing a candy bar.

I'm just so grateful I won't be around very much longer.
bookerdana · M
@Grateful4you Not healthy ...help bring about the change you want....I remember seeing a video before the 2020 election about challenging the electors ;I said that can't happen..but it did
