A reason for gratitude (and hope) for 2024 in the USA

Considering the rising threat of "Christian" nationalism and the increasing push for fascism in the US there appears to be a rising star on the horizon, someone most of us least expected. A man affectionately referred to as "Major Pete"

South Bend Indiana not long ago was considered one of the ten most decaying cities in the USA. Pete Buttigieg has won much support by both parties Democrats and Republicans alike. A Harvard graduate, Rhodes scholar, military hero, who speaks seven languages has managed to have made huge gains in restoring South Bend to industrial respectability.

Not only restoring industrial sites but raising the minimum wage for workers Pete Buttigieg has demonstrated both the energy, and passion for pro-active leadership that has captured the interest and enthusiasm of voters all over the USA.

He has the empathy and integrity that is so lacking in other politicians. His personal history is flawless, his dedication to improving quality of life for All people is clearly evident. I, (among many others) sincerely hope he considers throwing his hat into the ring as a presidential candidate in 2024.

That's wonderful news. Thank you so much for sharing it.
I'll googled him.
He's still young which bodes well for his influence to grow.
@hartfire I agree fully. People are tired of old white men trying to run things.

@Grateful4you As an old white guy who has control issues, i really resent his statement, yet support it too.

My only caveats are age and National experience. Its ironic though that talking to a friend before the 2020 Presidential race we agreed the last thing we needed was "another geriatric case"

Maybe 2028??

I think being a politician in the 21st century is a thankless difficult job
@bookerdana Good to know we are on the same page. Also, a reason I continue on SW. there are decent people here and for that I am grateful.

He sounds like a great candidate. But think this through. It is the predetirmined fate of all Presidents to be wasted..Fought to a standstill at best, by congres, the senate, the state and the courts.. Wouldnt you rather leave him to do some actual good for his local people than be used up and spat out by the system?😷
@whowasthatmaskedman I would have to give this a lot of thought but it's an interesting POV. Thanks.

I do like him--wish he would run instead of Biden...
I bet he'll be crushed if he tired .
All good people get weeded out of high politics😔

He should stay where he is to do the most good....under the radar.
@OogieBoogie He has a good sense of self awareness and has probably considered what you are observing. Time will tell I guess.
@Grateful4you i think its very much about 'being aware'.
Getting enough power to do good things , but not so much you are targeted.
Some good, is better than no good .
@OogieBoogie True enough.

He was the best choice in 2020.
Mayor Pete. Truly good guy. Admire.

Maybe he will.
