It was bad, but it wasn't all bad. [I Am Grateful]

I'm actually grateful for the hard period after a breakup. For me, it gives me a moment to step back and re-evaluate the choices I was making and to decide where I want to go. I also tend to think about my ex's qualities from a more objective place after we've broken up.
In my last relationship, my partner was very motivated to save for retirement and to have other financial goals. I always did the basic match at my workplace but didn't do much more regarding saving for retirement.

I suppose that I learned from him that it's important to make a financial plan. Even if you don't think you want to retire in the future, and even if it seems so far off that it's hard to picture, or you want to do something fun with the money now. Make a plan. It's better to have a generous amount of money that you find out you didn't need, as opposed to not having enough.

So, I'm working on creating financial goals now, and then I will analyze my current income and create the plan from there.

Hopefully, I continue to find other positive things that he taught me as I work through this hard part of the breakup.
