When I visited my family recently…

I was playing a lot of 80s music, whereupon my sisters got into a discussion (not argument, you understand) about the song "Everybody Wants to Rule The World" by Tears For Fears.

My youngest sister (49) claimed it as a "Gen X anthem" because it was a popular song with the teenagers of the day.

My middle sister (62) maintained that since Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith are Baby Boomers, it must be a "Boomer anthem" for those of us on the tail end of that generation.

I found the discussion interesting but left them to it. Either way, I think it’s a great song.

Elements of both in that.

Initial scene from the 70s. Gen x that scooter was Gen x. Yet the house Boomer!
The old car. Boomer
The glider. Gen x
Payphone! Definitely Boomer
The old style porta potty. Sort of both.
The old gas pumps. Definitely boomer.
Sand buggy. Gen x

Over all I would say it's a crossover generational song
