Im so grateful to be generation X.

It’s not just about being able to sit out and laugh at the Boomer vs Millennial arguments, although that’s a benefit.

Being born when I was born means I was a child when cinema and toys started to do something new. Nintendo and Sega produced their classics during my childhood. I was a kid who rode a bmx to the arcades to try beat my friends high scores.

Sure there was a cold war in full swing but we didnt talk about it all the time or let it get in our way of having fun.

I remember life before the internet and I was there for its rise so I have one foot in both worlds and an appreciation for both.

As an adult I only got dates with women by approaching them in person and making a connection through wit, charm, and dance moves (😂), rather than the seemingly soulless social media/dating app approach that now prevails.

In my lifetime going abroad on holiday and owning a home went from being a game show prizes to something more affordable.

I’m old enough to appreciate Boomer era music while also still being young enough to identify with modern stuff.

I guess the downsides are that my generation and all that follow will have to work for longer than our parents had to before we can retire. And I feel the need to distance my children from social media while at the same time accepting it’s going to be a necessary evil that will one day have its way.

So yes, Im getting old. But I’ve been in the right place at the right time, and I wouldn’t change it.
