I hate taxes. I hate everything about this time of year. No because you have to have all this paperwork, take it to a tax preparer, you MIGHT get SOME money back, it's pure hell for me.
@SomeMichGuy h&r block is okay. I don't like their rate, but, I was going to a guy who was only like 50 bucks, and the one year, yeah, he forgot to file my return. So here it is July, normally I would give all my stuff to a relative who would take all of our tax returns to the guy, and it worked out well for like 5 or 6 years, and then just the one year I wasn't getting a refund and then relative called the guy, found out that the my W-2 stuff was still sitting on his desk.
@twiigss Money magazine used to take some "interesting" taxes to a variety of tax preparers, including CPAs, H&R, etc., and they would show the range of prices AND the range of tax calculations. It varied wildly...*quite* wildly.
Some H&R Block preparers got it right/close to right, others got it wrong, and the same was true of more expensive services.
That added to my own desire to know what was going on, and just do it.
@SomeMichGuy True. Well the nice thing at this H&R is, they walk you through each step and explain what is happening. So you're not just sitting there not knowing, and I have done my own taxes before on TurboTax with my friend helping me, but since we no longer work at the same place anymore, and he is on 3rd shift, I'm on first, trying to make a day to hang out like we used to is kinda hard to do.
But I'm glad I went to H&R last year because of the issue people were having with TurboTax in 2022.
