I Am Going to Say Something Controversial

Blame it on California klan activity tbfh. 🙄

The reason is hiking is for middle class+ people.

http://www.pamallison.com/2012/08/18/hiking/ if you look at the demographic information and look up the groups of people mentioned who hiked more often you'll notice something about both their education and median income.

Your could then look at median incomes and higher education by race and draw the obvious conclusions. tbfh

@OverdramaticSona: In this particular case of trekking, I think it has to do more with culture with genes.
In these times where equality is the absolute dogma, researches that prove that humans are different since inception are not well seen. Even worse if gender or race are involved.
It is always easier to blame external factors for our behaviour. They can be much more easily modified than genetics or culture and therefore people are easier targets for manipulation.
The eternal nature/ nurture question again.
Culture is an external factor it's nurture not nature. It's heavily influenced by socio-economic status. They're is no one born with a culture that just isn't a thing. You grow up at people around you influence and teach you. Saying money is irrelevant to that is rediculous. It can't be manipulated any more than other data.

Every geneticist on the planet will say that humans are fundamentally different. We're already classified into 3 major human families that has to do with race.Theres different health disorders certain races are more likely to get on a genetic level. That's not something people shun. Every genetic study I've seen seperates men from women, because where not even sure of all of the different roles sex hormones play in things. We're completely different. Equality has nothing to do with making everything a mixed bland bag of it's all the same. It's about saying "yah people are fucking completely different, but that doesn't give you the right to be a prick".

Once again, there's no data proving the role of genes here. And won't be for a while, it's not useful to consider it here. Arguing that it's more of a cultural thing is along the lines of the article you linked. Because she's talking about fear passed down by word of mouth to younger generations about what can happen to you. Yet you denounced that article already. What is this mythological culture that you speak of that's neither external nor is it at all related to money. It's something magical we're born with how spooky 🙄. This is rediculous honestly.
@Cierzo: Yes. Poor people call "hiking" being homeless. But there's a larger black middle class than anyone ever acknowledges. There always has been.

Your statement and the article have to the dumbest things I read today.

Edit: I apologize. I thought you were agreeing with the article.

Her paragraph: Yet it’s simplistic and inaccurate to think that people of color don’t appreciate nature. The trails in Griffith Park and above Pasadena are filled with hikers who look like Los Angeles. On weekends, the city's biggest parks and its other outdoor venues are enjoyed by families of all ethnicities and races.

Yet she still blathers for at least another page.

I bet we would be shocked (shocked!) if we learned what percentage of white folks don't visit a state/national park in a year.

I do not agree with the article. It is sensationalistic crap as you said.
Okay, that's crazy. I'll guess I'll have to write to her and send pics of me and my family hiking in Big Basin, Yosemite, Plumas Eureka, Lake Mackerricher...
Who are they? "Colored people"?
The Asian, and Anglo? Oh ! so, that is What GANDI made for Hindu Prejudices?
They are Supermassive of the Society?

The writer of the article uses this term for black people
Cierzo · M
"There are reasons why people of colour are underrepresented in the backcountry. Escaped slaves passed through forests full of danger".
"A black family at a camping in Nevada was terrorised by a drunken white camper".
I agree the article is really dumb.
And pointing at victimization not popular at all.

That sensationalization is the only way her crap made it into the paper.
