I get that socialism isn't perfect and some people may find it unfair, but...
What I don't understand is the biggest argument against it: "Funding socialism requires such high taxes that working people won't be able to afford food."
Supplementing income so that everyone can afford basic needs like food, healthcare and housing applies to everyone. Working people shouldn't need it because wages are always higher than government support under any proposed version, but if working people somehow can't afford food on their wages, they too will receive support to buy that.
The only way anybody goes hungry, sick or homeless under real socialism is if everybody does because the support isn't sufficient. But the value of all labor not covering everyone's basic needs is only possible if a bunch of it leaves the system.
That happens when CEOs take more of it than they pump back in the form of wages, job creation, taxes and consumption that creates demand for all that, and leave the rest just sitting somewhere. That's the core philosophy of capitalism. You're afraid of capitalism.
