I'm a democratic socialist

so when I bring up socialism and people are like "So like Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Kim Jong-Un?" it's as if whenever capitalism is brought up people were like "So like Hitler, Mussolini, Franco and Pinochet?" - democratic socialism has as much to do with Marxism-Leninism/Stalinism/Maoism/Juche as (neo)liberalism has to do with fascism/Nazism; yes, both use the same (or at least a similar) economic model, but the policies used within the systems are radically different.

I had a guy debate with me that Communism is worse than National Socialism. He said he would rather live under Nazi rule than Communism.
Communists have killed more people he said. Yeah but National Socialism, the Holocaust lasted 3 years. Communism has been practiced in over 40 countries in in the last 95 years.
Capitalism kills millions per year.

I think Tankie countries like the Soviet Union were capitalist, but even if we were to count Tankies as Communists, Capitalism has still killed more people.
Now of course it's not the same. Capitalist Democracies are better than Tankie Dictatorships. I rather live in America than China. But if we're going to judge which system killed more, Capitalism does have the bigger body count globally and throughout history.
