The sad part is that it's easier to motivate people with lies than truths.
Tell people to cooperate because a man in the sky says so? They'll do it.
Make a detailed plan based on logic and reason why it would be in everyone's best interest to cooperate? You might get a 3rd of those present to give it a half hearted attempt...at best.
