Both "irresponsible" enough to unintentionally become pregnant while being responsible enough to be compelled to maintain 9 months of healthy pre-natal care, and then care for a newborn baby. 🤨

Why are these states legal marriage age so young, NOW ? When it's illegal to even drink at these ages there?

These are kids getting pregnant and condoned by law through marriage of parental consent.
What's the difference in Afghanistan other perhaps a couple of years younger? The parental consent is required there as well.

@DeWayfarer The différence is, these are old laws that continue from the days before Roe v.Wade when marriage was the only option to becoming an ”unwed mother", which held a stigma it doesn’t now.
I used Afghanistan as an example because there was a point where their women had gained civil rights that their religious right-wing, in the body of the Taliban, were able to reverse and take away.
I hate to imagine that with as many women in positions of power and leadership that could happen as completely here.

Look at Wyoming. 16
That's a conservative strong hold and with the McCains (including Megan a very strong woman) having power for decades.
BTW I had a girl friend in Wyoming. Her first marriage was at 16. Had to chase the guy out of town because he was hitting her! She never was pregnant though. No stigma! This was after Roe versus Wade in 1979.
