Americans and guns

I don't know anybody who owns A gun.
But I know a whole lot of people who own many.

What's it like in your country?

I don't currently own guns. Even so I made a point of learning basic safety in regards to them and I find the history and mechanical engineering of them interesting.

I know some gun owners. And most gun owners here consider the American attitude toward firearms as completely insane.

One interesting thing about Canada though is you can own black powder artillery with a basic unrestricted license. The only restrictions is it can't be rifled or a breach loader. lol

And .50 rifles were easier to buy here than in some states.

Stuff like this has over time led me to believe the mentality and culture in the US is more of a problem than the category of weapons available.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Thank goodness, you Canadians have no say in our gun policies. Damn near outlawed them up there.
@ChadJNSD Umm no. Good job proving you don't know shit about anything and apparently you can't read.

And how many mass shootings have you had this week?
ChadJNSD · 31-35, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow These shootings have nothing to do with guns, you dip...has to do with severely mentally unstable people.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I know Canadians are big on hunting and hunting rifles. What's the attitude where you are concerning assault weapons?
@robingoodfellow Well first off it is kind of a meaningless distinction even in a military context full auto is not used unless you are storming an enemy position and is not about actually hitting anything. It is about getting people's heads down.

So even semi auto rifles are 99% the same as what an infantry soldier is taking to war.

That being said many of those are perfectly legal here and we don't have mass shootings to the point that the US does. Not even close.

@robingoodfellow 👍🤗♥️
I'll just leave this here...
@Montanaman And back to factually wrong and bad faith memes and pretending it is a gotcha.

And any idiot who thinks 22LR and 5.56 or even .223 are the same is either ignorant or lying to you.

Given memes like this I would guess the later.

And it is not about "looking scary" or at least not directly. It is about ARs being used by idiots who think they look macho and think shooting random people will restore their masculinity.

One is used by the mass majority of active shooters. It has nothing to do with aesthetics.

Also claims that a semi auto version of a military rifle is radically different is also largely a lie in practical terms.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Just click your heels together Dorothy, And repeat, "There's no place like home. "
Same caliber ammo as the AR-15.
Not 22lr.
So you totally missed my point.
@Montanaman Sorry. Took another look and I made a mistake since Ruger has not changed a rifle design since 1914 so they all look the same.

Thought it was a 10/22 which is usually pictured with these memes.

The rest of the point is just as ridiculous and you clearly didn't read my response.

It has nothing to do with "scary black rifles:"
Montanaman · M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow it's okay. I am a pro- gun guy, but it really pisses me off that theses crazies choose to use an AR-15 style rifle. I personally don't own one nor do i want to.
@Montanaman Look. On the face of it most of these simplistic memes seem to add up. But like red sports cars it has nothing to do with aesthetics.

If active shooters start storming in with pink Barbie edition USPs those will be the guns that get regulated.

For now it is the AR.

This is important to understand because the new civvie version of the new US military rifle has already been used in a mass shooting and the new rounds are designed to defeat body armour.
Montanaman · M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I totally get that. 😳😒🤗🤗♥️🙏
Montanaman · M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow But...The thing I'm afraid of(and by afraid, I mean I'm concerned)
Is that the anti-gun troupe, don't have limitations on what will and could be banned.
My 9mm Beretta has 4 mags. Two 15 rd. And two 17rd. If they ban mags over 10 rounds...they are in essence, banning my 9mm pistol...
What's next?
@Montanaman Cool. Not trying to come at you but it is just more complicated than alot of the stuff floating around want you to think it is.

And I think regulation is only part of the equation.

I think the US right wing gun culture needs a major shift. Even most gun owners up here in Canada think American right wing gun culture is fucked up.

Guns have to stop being status symbols.
Montanaman · M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow They truly are a status symbol, glorifying machism. I know this to be true.
@Montanaman It is scary.

And on the left the gun culture there is not about machismo and more about actual defense but living in fear that the NRA crowd and the local sheriffs are ones step away from walking them to a shallow ditch is not exactly healthy either.
