Firearms have quickly been rising as one of the leading causes of death among children throughout the years, being in a decisive #2 spot behind motor vehicle accidents. As of the last recorded year of measurements (2020), firearms actually became the #1 cause of death among children.

It still remains to be seen if it's a statistical aberration for an unusual year or if the trend continues upwards. Given the news reports on child-related shooting incidents I've been seeing over the course of the pandemic, I suspect that this already disturbing trend just continues getting worse.
