It isn't about gun control. Did you see where the nutcase killed 5 with a stick and string bow and arrow in a supermarket in Norway? It is about identifying and stopping murderous people. Blaming inanimate objects for the criminal actions of people is just stupid. Banning forks won't solve obesity anymore than banning guns will solve murders.

"Gun control" is just a placebo that makes folks think something is being done. The so called "assault weapons" ban had zero effect on the murder rate in this country. The murder rate is higher in areas with the strictest gun control. The lack of gun control laws has nothing to do with the crime and murder rate in Chicago. The problem is identifying and either treating or locking those with homicidal bents away from the rest of society.

You don't believe me? The last set of FBI stats I saw showed that you were almost twice as likely to be killed by fists/feet than rifles of all types....and the so called "assault rifles" are only a small portion of those rifles. (FBI uniform crime report 2019, 364 killed with rifles, 600 with fists/feet).

So long as we concentrate on the gun we are excusing or at least ignoring the real problem. No gun ever jumped off the table and shot anything on its own. No gun ever forced anyone to go on a homicidal rampage.

After every one of these damned shootings there are people who come forward with information about all the warning signs that were ignored. This Texas shooter was showing all sorts of signs.....cutting himself on the face for crying out loud! Do you want to do something concrete, intervene beforehand.

Oh, one more point.....it was a Law Enforcement officer with a rifle that put an end to that Texas kids rampage, thank God that he did. That one will also be in next years statistics.

So you can continue to talk about controlling forks while wondering why you can't button up your pants.
@bowman81 Respectfully this last school shooter sounds possessed..Some of the same symptoms of Legion in the Bible.. The Bibke tells us he cut himself and cried..

5 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:

4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

****5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.*****

6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.

12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

(Yeah I realize most don’t believe in possession but it’s in the Bible and it exists on earth today. Even more so today. People pick and choose what they believe from the Bible but every word of it is true. 🙂)
@bowman81 You forget guns have one singular purpose that they are efficient at. Killing. If you want to kill a person with a stick you have to work at it. If you want to beat a person to death that could take hours. If you want to kill with a gun you can be paralyzed all over except for your finger and all it has to do is curl a little and you have killed. Guns are literally weapons of mass destruction.
Indentifying the problem people is a good idea but the murderers are half the government and they are definitely going to keep them and their kind out of prison. So controlling weapons is at least part of the solution since we take neither guns nor people seriously.
@bowman81 You are a fool.

Of course the LE officer would have a weapon. But if you paid attention to any news over the past many years, it has been painfully obvious that even well-trained LE officers *fuck up*.

How much more so will normal people.

If that kid in TX had only had access to hand knives...or the guy shooting into the crowd at the music festival in Las Vegas, or most of the school shooters, not only would it have hampered their ability to access places (with a gun, you can shoot a door's lock[s] or hinges), but it would GREATLY reduce the numbers killed.

It would have to be close-in, not from a long way away.

Your NRA bullshit isn't bought by most of the country anymore.

@canusernamebemyusername cars kill more than guns so lets ban them first.people kill people unless you know of a gun that can aim it self and pull the trigger all by it self
@beaglehunter In 2020, guns were the leading killer of children, not cars.

Get real.

@beaglehunter stop deflecting and make some constructive suggestions.
beaglehunter · 70-79, M
@SomeMichGuy you would have to show me that.you must have heard that from one of nancys speeches
@beaglehunter
lol You've just said a mouthful, and shown your unsurprising true colors.

You trot out the same excuses Wayne LaPierre has made for years, and, when confronted by something you don't like, you deny it and try to say that it vame from <reach into the bin of "dem dere bad leftist sources"...ah, yes...> PELOSI!

You can't have your own facts. I'll find it.

But FYI, it was just reported on the PBS News Hour the other evening (they often have some fact related to the story just presented as part of the transition to a new story). But I'm sure that's also in your bin of untrustworthy sources, like that darn Encyclopedia Britannica, the OED, Nobel Prizewinners, etc., etc., etc.
beaglehunter · 70-79, M
@SomeMichGuy you have a right to your opinion and try to understand how your right was won from England by brave Americans in the late 17 hundreds and what they used to win that right. ww1 then ww2.If you dont want a gun thats you right the same as my right to have one.
@beaglehunter lol I am well aware of history and I own guns. But people need to read the 2nd Amendment clearly and fully.

Here's the graph titled

"Leading Causes of Death Among Children and Adolescents in the United States, 1999 to 2020"

(Fig. 1 of the paper available at
https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2201761, from 19 May):

As the paper notes, "children and adolescents" are defined to be from 1 to 19 yrs of age.

This is due to CDC data for 2020.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@SomeMichGuy But, the stats also say that the majority of kids under 12 that were murdered were killed by their parent. So, we should outlaw parents!
@fanuc2013 Do they? If true, that's awful. Some parents are sick.

While it might be tempting to wonder if the pro-gun people are not as "family values"-oriented as they like to claim, I'll simply again say that guns allow for a quicker, easier kill compared to more personal, close-in ways of doing it. Even being feet away is different from killing another with one's bare hands.

Guns make killing easier. That's their purpose. Is it really that hard to acknowledge that?

smh

Bullshit. These images are due to another SW user.

Then please contact your Representative, Senators, and full State delegation in Congress and demand that they restore Federal funding for mental health facilities. This was cut when Reagan was President.

Hindsight is 20/20...smh

LOL

It would be interesting to see how many incidents each represents...for a given person, how man others can he or she kill, per incident, with "fists and feet", v. the gun incidents.

One gun can kill more people far more easily than one pair of hands + one pair of feet.
