Suspect kills 10 at Buffalo supermarket mass shooting (this happened today May 14, 2022)

BUFFALO, N.Y. - A gunman in military-style clothing opened fire with a rifle at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, in what authorities called a "hate crime and racially motived violent extremism," killing 10 people and wounding three others before being taken in custody Saturday afternoon, law enforcement officials said.

you're a cop, or a (certified, qualified) private security guard, or other whitelisted professions => you get a gun.

You don't => you don't.

We had that system since forever and we hardly have shooting events.

New York has the most restrictive gun laws. I wouldn’t even know how to buy one, yet this still happens. If the people in the supermarket were armed, there would be less fatalities, but these laws only disarm law abiding citizens. Criminals will always find a way to get them, and we are left unarmed at their mercy. @Vivaci

UK never had much in the way of guns. There was virtually no gun violence there, except for the criminal gang members. It just wasn’t a thing in the UK, so it’s not comparable. @Vivaci

@Darksideinthenight2 You want your country nto resemble Russia, China or Iran? Of you care to open any history book you'll find out we've moved *away* from death penalty for a series of good reasons, one of which that it has no benefit whatsoever on the incidence of crime.

I suggest reading an author from my land on the matter, C. Beccaria, "dei delitti e delle pene" - you can find it in English and I think for free.

@MarmeeMarch I live in the country internationally known for mafia, where you can definitely bet there's a black market of guns, and even here the incidence of mass shootings is less than 1% that of the U.S.
